What is Dulce de Leche?
Dulce de Leche, also known as caramelized milk, milk candy, or milk jam, is a beloved confectionary across Latin America, France, Poland, and the Philippines. Traditionally it is made by gently heating sugar and milk over several hours, allowing the mixture to thicken into a rich, spreadable sauce. The slow cooking process causes non-enzymatic browning, giving it a deep, golden-brown color and a velvety, caramelized flavor.
At Quel, we take it a step further by using the condensed milk method. By cooking a can of condensed milk in a pressure cooker for several minutes, we create a luxuriously dark, firm, and jam-like consistency. This velvety spread is the perfect complement for our alfajores, adding a rich sweetness that elevates every bite!
